IDU/Controls

The IDU-the hardware that powers the Primary Flight Display (PFD) and accompanying Multi-Function Displays (MFDs)-is the backbone of the FlightLogic system. Each IDU incorporates:

  • Central Processing Unit (CPU) employing a ruggedized industrial Pentium II 333MMX with 32MB RAM and 4.3GB solid-state hard drive
  • Large 6.5" full-color, ultra-bright, high-resolution LCD that is sunlight-readable
  • Brightness adjustment knob (1000:1 ratio) for comfortable viewing under any condition…from direct sunlight to total darkness
  • Soft-button control (buttons change function according to current display) with tactile differentiation so that buttons to be identified and operated by feel alone
  • Menu scroll and select knob for fast, one-touch inputs
  • Rugged, anodized machined 6061-T6 aluminum bezel
  • Voice warning system with three escalation levels (advisory, caution and warning) for 24 conditions requiring pilot attention. Synchronized with warning flags displayed on LCD screen (green, yellow or red).
  • Illuminated slip indicator
  • SmartMedia data card reader for fast, easy software and database updates/upgrades
  • Digital flight recorder that logs all engine and flight data

The FlightLogic IDUs—the main display and computer processing hardware—are incredibly rugged and have passed all FAA-required RTCA DO-160D environmental tests. Each IDU is so strong, you can park an 18-wheel semi on it, yet a single IDU weighs only 4.4 lbs.
